Onboarding is a damn nightmare
Recently I was at a social dinner with several friends with an org, and they mentioned the onboarding process was, to paraphrase, ‘kinda doodoo ass;’ citing a reliance on legacy systems and underdocumented pipelines.
“Yeah,” I said. “It’s not ideal, but we’re working on it— and it’s hardly worse than a typical tech stack elsewhere. Having to learn the ropes trial-by-fire is kinda the norm?”
Imagine my shock when people collectively exclaimed otherwise! “Winfy that’s not normal,” they said!! “You’ve been working for some fucked orgs!”
What the fuck! Every single org I’ve had is the same experience— figure it out your damn self. Startups! Massive companies! Open source collectives! Nonprofits! Medium sized companies! Is this abnormal??????? Have I been lied to this whole time??
